Basketball at St Mary's College: CSSA teams Years 7–12 with morning training Tuesday and Friday 7:00–8:15am in the Sports Centre, Senior A Saturday fixtures, remaining Term 3 2026 draw, coaches, selection, and Junior Friday basketball.

Basketball is played year-round at St Mary's. Senior teams compete in the CSSA Wednesday winter competition (Terms 2–3), our Senior A boys and girls play the CSSA Saturday competition, and a lunchtime 3-on-3 league runs every Term. Junior students play NDPSA basketball on Fridays in Term 3 (replacing tee-ball) and again in the summer season.

Who can play

  • Senior (Years 7–12): boys' and girls' divisions — Junior (Years 7–8), Intermediate (Years 9–10), Senior (Years 11–12).
  • Junior (Years 3–6): NDPSA Friday basketball — Term 3 (winter) and Terms 4 and 1 (summer).

Season

CSSA Winter season, Terms 2–3. Grand Final Wednesday 16 September 2026. A summer social competition for Years 7–10 runs Wednesday lunchtimes in Term 4.

Training is before school. Students enter through the Sports Centre side door (opened 6:50am), shower and change by 8:30am, and go to Homeroom at 8:40am. The Harbour Café opens at 8:00am for breakfast. Senior and Intermediate squads train Tuesday; Junior squads train Friday; Senior A boys and girls train both mornings.

Home games are in the Sports Centre (start 1:50pm, 4 × 8-minute quarters). Away buses leave the Senior gate at 1:20pm; away games start 2:00pm. Students return by 3:25pm.

Arrive 30 minutes before tip-off. Stadium entry is $3 per spectator (charged by the stadium, not the College).

What to bring

  • Sport uniform to school on Wednesdays; reversible playing singlet is issued for the season
  • Basketball shoes (non-marking soles) — runners are acceptable for Junior teams
  • Drink bottle; mouthguard recommended
  • Morning training: full school uniform to change into, and a towel

Wet weather

Basketball is indoors and rarely cancelled. Rounds are cancelled on days of 35°C forecast at 9:00am or Total Fire Ban (bus travel is the issue, not the game), with a Parent Portal notification by 12:30pm Wednesday. Morning training is cancelled by SMS by 6:00am if the Sports Centre is unavailable.

Selection

Trials are held at Tuesday and Friday morning training in Week 1 of Term 2. Every student who trials is placed. Senior A squads are ten players and are re-selected each half-season; students are told individually.

Cost

Nil. Included in fees. Saturday stadium spectator entry ($3) applies to parents only.

Junior (Years 3–6) Friday interschool basketball

Junior basketball runs Fridays 1:30–3:00pm in the NDPSA competition — in Term 3 (replacing Term 2 tee-ball) and in the summer season (Term 4 and Term 1). Teams: Year 3/4 Mixed A and B, Year 5/6 Boys, Year 5/6 Girls. Coaches: Mr Daniel Ruiz and Mr Josh Pham. Remaining Term 3 games: Friday 28 August v Riverbend Primary (home, Sports Centre) and NDPSA Basketball Finals Friday 11 September at Wattle Creek Basketball Stadium.
