Netball
Netball at St Mary's College: Senior CSSA teams Years 7–12 (training Monday and Thursday), Saturday Open A fixtures, remaining Term 3 2026 draw, coaches, selection, what to bring, and the Junior Friday competition.
Netball is the College's largest winter sport, with 14 Senior teams and 8 Junior teams taking the court each week. Senior teams play in the CSSA Wednesday competition during Terms 2 and 3, and our Open A side also plays the CSSA Saturday morning competition. This page covers the Senior program in detail with a short section on Junior Friday netball at the end.
Who can play
- Senior (Years 7–12): open to girls and boys. Mixed teams play in the CSSA mixed division; girls' teams play in the girls' division.
- Junior (Years 3–6): NDPSA Friday netball, Terms 2–3.
Season
CSSA Winter season: Term 2 and Term 3. Round 1 was Wednesday 22 April 2026; the Grand Final is Wednesday 16 September 2026. Pre-season trials run in the last week of Term 1.

Training is compulsory for team members. Open A and Senior A train both sessions; Junior and Intermediate teams train Monday (Years 7–8) or Thursday (Years 9–10) unless the coach advises otherwise. Students who cannot attend must message their coach via the Learning Hub team page before 3:00pm.

Remaining Term 3 2026 fixtures — CSSA Wednesday (1:20–3:25pm)
Buses leave the Senior gate at 1:20pm for away games. Home games are played at the Sports Centre and start at 1:50pm; away games start at 2:00pm. Students return to the College by 3:25pm.

Current ladder positions (after Round 5): Open A 2nd, Senior B 5th, Inter A 1st, Inter B 3rd, Junior A 2nd, Junior B 4th, Mixed Senior 1st. Teams that do not qualify for finals play friendly rounds against Emmaus and Sacred Heart on the same dates.
Year 9 note: Year 9 students are on City Experience from Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September and miss Round 7. Intermediate teams will be topped up from Year 8 for that round.

Players arrive 40 minutes before the start for warm-up. Parents transport players to Saturday games.
What to bring
- Full sport uniform (navy/gold polo, navy shorts, white socks, runners); netball dress or bib is loaned for the season and returned washed at the end of the season
- Drink bottle, hat and sunscreen for outdoor away venues
- Short nails (checked by umpires); hair tied back; no jewellery
- Asthma puffer or medication if required
Wet weather
Wednesday games proceed in light rain on indoor and covered courts. If the CSSA cancels a round, or the forecast at 9:00am is 35°C or above or a Total Fire Ban is declared, a Parent Portal notification is sent by 12:30pm on Wednesday. Saturday cancellations are texted to parents by 7:00am. See Extreme Weather & Cancellations.
Selection
Trials are held in Week 1 of the season. Students are graded by the coaching panel on skill, fitness, attendance at training and attitude. Every student who trials is placed in a team. Open A selection is reviewed each fortnight; a student dropped from a team is always told why and what to work on.
Cost
Nil. Netball is included in College fees. Saturday competition entry is paid by the College.
Junior (Years 3–6) Friday interschool netball
Junior netball is played on Fridays 1:30–3:00pm in the NDPSA winter competition (Terms 2–3). Teams: Year 3/4 A and B, Year 5/6 A, B and C, and a Year 5/6 Mixed side. Coaches: Ms Ellie Marchetti and Mr Ahmed Saleh. Remaining Term 3 games: Friday 28 August (v Wattle Creek Primary, home, Sports Centre) and Grand Final Friday 11 September (Kingsley Park courts). There is no Friday sport on Friday 4 September (Junior Athletics Carnival) or Friday 18 September (last day, 2:30pm dismissal). See Friday Interschool Sport.
