Tennis at St Mary's College: CSSA summer teams Years 7–12 training Friday 3:30–5:00pm on the College courts, Term 3 social tennis, Term 4 2026 draw, Saturday 1st IV fixtures, coaches, selection, gear and Junior Friday tennis.
Tennis is a CSSA summer sport (Term 4 and Term 1) at St Mary's. The College has six plexipave courts behind the Sports Centre, lit for evening play. Friday afternoon training runs every term: in Terms 2 and 3 it operates as an open coaching and social session, and in Terms 4 and 1 it is team training for the CSSA season. Years 3–6 play NDPSA tennis on Friday afternoons in summer.
Who can play
- Senior (Years 7–12): boys' and girls' divisions, Junior (Years 7–8), Intermediate (Years 9–10), Senior (Years 11–12). Each team is four players (two singles, two doubles per round).
- Junior (Years 3–6): NDPSA Friday tennis (modified "Hot Shots" orange/green ball), Terms 4 and 1.
Season
- CSSA Summer season: Term 4 2026 (Round 1 Wednesday 7 October 2026) and Term 1 2027 (finals Wednesday 24 March 2027).
- Terms 2–3: Friday coaching and social tennis (no fixtures).

Sessions are run by Mrs Julie Anderson (Tennis Australia Club Professional) with College staff. Racquets available to borrow. Students are collected from the Kiss-and-Drop zone at 5:00pm.

Home rounds on the College courts start at 1:50pm; away buses depart the Senior gate at 1:20pm for a 2:00pm start. Format: two singles and two doubles, first to six games.

Saturday fixtures — 1st IV (Term 4)
The 1st IV Boys and Girls play the CSSA Saturday competition from Saturday 10 October 2026, 8:30am, alternating between the College courts and opponents' home courts. The Saturday draw is published on the Learning Hub Sport page in the last week of Term 3.
What to bring
- Sport uniform to school on Wednesdays (Term 4); College playing top issued to 1st IV
- Own racquet recommended (loan racquets available), non-marking tennis shoes
- Hat and sunscreen — compulsory in Term 4 and Term 1 under the SunSmart Policy; drink bottle
- Balls supplied by the College
Wet weather
Tennis cannot be played on wet courts. If courts are unplayable at 12:00pm on Wednesday the round is cancelled and posted to the Parent Portal by 12:30pm; students do indoor fitness until 2:45pm. Rounds are also cancelled for 35°C at 9:00am or Total Fire Ban. Friday training cancellations are posted on the Learning Hub team page by 2:00pm.
Selection
Trials over the last two Fridays of Term 3 (Friday 11 and Friday 18 September 2026), using a round-robin of short sets. Everyone who trials is placed. Rankings within teams are adjusted through the season by challenge matches at Friday training.
Cost
Nil. Included in fees. Optional private lessons with Mrs Anderson on the College courts are booked directly with her ($45 per half hour) and are not a College activity.
Junior (Years 3–6) Friday interschool tennis
NDPSA tennis is a summer Friday sport, 1:30–3:00pm, Terms 4 and 1, played on the College courts and at Wattle Creek Tennis Club. Teams: Year 3/4 Mixed, Year 5/6 Mixed A and B (Hot Shots green ball).
