Assessment and Reporting — Senior School

Parents should never be surprised by a report. In the Senior School we report continuously through the Learning Hub, so that families see results and written feedback for every assessed task within about ten school days, and then summarise progress in a formal report at the end of each semester. Two rounds of Learning Conversations each year give students, parents and teachers time to talk about what the feedback means. Continuous reporting

Every assessment task in Years 7–12 is published on the Learning Hub assessment calendar with its due date, weighting and task sheet. When the task is marked, the teacher publishes:

• the result (a mark, grade or VCE SAC score) and, for Years 7–10, an indication of achievement against the Victorian Curriculum standard;
• a written comment identifying what the student did well and one or two specific next steps;
• for Year 11–12 SACs, the class average, so families can see the result in context.

Feedback is published within ten school days of the due date. Parents receive a notification when new feedback appears (set preferences under Settings → Notifications). Overdue or missing work is flagged in orange; a task not submitted within a week of the due date triggers a message from the teacher to the parent. Semester reports

Formal reports are published as PDFs on the Parent Portal (not the Learning Hub) twice a year and remain available for the student's whole enrolment.

Years 7–10 reports show achievement as a five-point scale against the expected standard, together with a percentage for each assessed task. Learning behaviours are rated Consistently, Usually, Sometimes or Rarely. Year 11 and 12 reports show S or N for each unit outcome, SAC scores (Unit 3–4) and exam marks (Unit 1–2). Students with a Personalised Learning Plan receive an additional PLP review from Mr Sam Devlin each semester.

Learning Conversations — Years 7–10, Thursday 3 September 2026

Learning Conversations are three-way meetings between student, parent and teacher, held twice a year. The Term 3 round for Years 7–10 is on Thursday 3 September 2026 from 3:45pm to 7:30pm in Mary MacKillop Hall and the Sports Centre. Classes finish at the normal time of 3:25pm.

• Bookings opened on the Parent Portal at 7:00am on Monday 24 August 2026 and close at 12:00pm on Wednesday 2 September 2026. Go to Parent Portal → Interviews → Learning Conversations Term 3.
• Each appointment is 8 minutes. Book with as many teachers as you wish; a five-minute gap between bookings is built in. Families with more than one student in Years 7–10 can view both children's teachers on one screen.
• Students attend in full uniform and lead part of the conversation using their Learning Hub feedback: what has gone well, what has been hard, what they will do next.
• Teachers who are fully booked will offer phone appointments the following week — request one through the Learning Hub.
• Online appointments via Teams are available for families who cannot attend in person; tick Online when booking.
• Parking: Chapel Road car park and the Sports Centre car park (enter via Old Mill Road). The Harbour Café is open until 6:30pm for coffee and light meals.

Year 11 and 12 Learning Conversations were held on Thursday 6 August 2026. The Term 1 round for all year levels is on Thursday 25 March 2027. Junior School families see Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences.

Examinations

Years 7–10 sit end-of-year exams from Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December 2026; Year 11 exams run Monday 7 – Friday 11 September 2026; Year 12 Practice Exams run Tuesday 25 – Friday 28 August 2026. Exam results in Years 7–10 count for 20–30% of the semester result (Years 9–10) and are reported separately for Years 7–8. See Exam Timetables 2026.

Extensions, late work and redemption

• Years 7–10: extensions of up to one week may be requested from the teacher before the due date. Late work without an extension loses 5% per school day for up to five days and is then marked for feedback only.
• Years 11–12: SAC dates cannot be extended except for illness with a medical certificate or approved school representation; see the VCE Handbook for the redemption process.
• Students who are absent for an assessment provide a note or medical certificate and complete the task at the next available opportunity.

Academic honesty

Work must be the student's own. Teachers use drafting checkpoints and, in Years 9–12, similarity software. Generative AI may be used only where the task sheet allows and must be acknowledged. A first breach in Years 7–10 results in the task being redone; VCE breaches follow VCAA rules. See Digital Learning and AI.

Awards

Academic Excellence and Endeavour awards are presented at the Senior Awards Evening on Wednesday 9 December 2026, 7:00pm in Mary MacKillop Hall. Awards are based on the semester results and learning behaviours in the reports.
